A Note from Your District Governor

RYLA & YRYLA Update

Young people are the future of Rotary. One of our major goals as a district is to continue generating interest and enrollment in our youth programs. Even during the ongoing pandemic, good progress is  happening across the Rotary Youth landscape:

  • RYLA: Registration opened February 1, 2021. You can also get updates at IowaRYLA.org.
  • YRYLA: Registration also opened February 1, 2021. You can also get updates at IowaYoungRYLA.org

  • Rotary Youth Exchange: Interviews are progressing in anticipation of being allowed to do the exchanges this coming year.

  • Interact: Many District clubs are going strong! Check out the latest news with these clubs in their newsletter from Katie Wilford.

It is heartening to see that plans are being made to hold these programs safely. We continue to keep our fingers crossed our youth programs can happen this year. What are your local youth clubs up to in 2021? Email your Rotary Youth events to Suellen Kolbet at des@district5970.org for inclusion in our shared District mailings.

Virtual Excitement this Spring!

Your District Governor has a million things going on in his head right now. The District Conference committee is setting up a great lineup of speakers for the Virtual District Conference - mark your calendars for April 30 - May 1, 2021, for this event.

In other news, watch for details about the upcoming virtual Foundation Duck Race ... and possibly a Facebook-based auction for the Rotary Foundation (planning in progress). While we can’t be all together in person just yet, we can be together digitally in the spirit of Rotary. I look forward to seeing you all at these educational and fun virtual events.
