Foundation First newsletter

May, 2022

Welcome to the May District 5970 Foundation Newsletter.

What a wonderful District Conference we had.  Thank you to all who ventured down to Coralville to attend and share your Rotary stories.  Our next District Conference is scheduled for April 21st & 22nd, 2023 in Waverly.  Mark your calendars now and plan to attend.

A BIG thank you to Theresa Mickelson, chair of our District Fund Raising Committee and all Rotarians who bought a duck or a few. With your help we were able to raise over $5,000.00 in the District Duck Pluck.  This will be donated to Polio Plus and each Rotarian will get personal credit for their donation to The Rotary Foundation.

REMINDER – all clubs with District Grants for this Rotary year, your final report is due no later than May 31st, 2022.  We look forward to being able to post your results on the District website and Facebook page.  If you have any questions on this please contact the District Grant Chair Jim Coloff or me prior to May 31st.

I learned about a new recognition we are going to implement in District 5970.  A District in California wanted to encourage gifts to the Polio Plus Annual Campaign and make it easier for individuals to attain a recognition.  They implemented a Polio Plus Society recognition that recognizes anyone willing to commit to a $100.00 donation to the Polio Plus Annual campaign every year.  We will be kicking off our version of this campaign in May.  Anyone who has donated or donates at least $100.00 to the Polio Plus Campaign in this Rotary year and is willing to send in a registration committing to giving at least $100.00 annually before June 30th will become a Founding Member of the District 5970 Polio Plus Society.  More information and a registration form will be posted to the District 5970 website and sent out soon.

Chris Lindell (our Global Scholarship Chair) is still looking for Global Scholarship candidates. If you know of someone who is looking to get a graduate level degree and wants to study at a university in a country not the United States, please contact Chris so he can help determine if the person qualifies.  Global scholarships are full ride scholarships.  Our best past recipients have been acquaintances of Rotarians.

As we start to see the end of this Rotary year approaching, I want to thank each of you for your support and your donations to The Rotary Foundation, together we accomplish more.
