Dear Rotarians,

Best wishes to each of you for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!  Thanks for all you have accomplished in your clubs, in your communities, and across the District during the first half of our Rotary year.  Local grant projects have been completed, fundraising events held, and new global grant projects have been submitted to the Foundation.  As we look ahead to the second half, we anticipate our clubs will be reaching their 2019-20 goals in giving to the Annual Fund and to polio eradication.  In that regard, we want to lift up two clubs who made notable progress in their giving to the Rotary Foundation.

Spencer Rotary Club
On November 18 the Spencer Rotary Club held a fundraiser for the PolioPlus fund and raised $6,200, providing over 10,000 polio vaccine doses to the children of the world.  The event also celebrated the birthday of Governor Michelle Bell.  We honor the leadership of Rotarian Bob Rose, who played a significant role in personally matching the gifts of those who attended the event.  Bob has also led the way in helping the Spencer Club reach the 100% Paul Harris Fellow level.

We also thank and recognize the Monticello Rotary Club who sent End Polio Now bracelets that were distributed at the event as a gift and fundraising tool.

Dubuque Rotary Club

An ambitious goal of raising $279,054 for PolioPlus was set by the Dubuque Rotary Club this year.  As of December 31, 2019 the club has met that goal.  Congratulations!  On behalf of our District, I convey our heartfelt thanks to the major donors and members of the Dubuque Club for their generosity and inspiration, and to the leadership of Club Foundation Chair, Chuck Weber.

The Dubuque Club’s gift brings us to within $17,000 of our District goal for PolioPlus.  We owe it to these generous Rotarians to do our part in each of our clubs to insure we meet the District goal.  Thank you, Dubuque Rotarians!

Did You Know?
This is the Rotary Foundation’s message about the Annual Fund:

WHAT IS THE ROTARY FOUNDATION’S ANNUAL FUND?

The Annual Fund is the primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of The Rotary Foundation.  From digging clean water wells for villages in Africa to teaching basic literacy skills to children in Latin America, during any given moment in a day, thousands of Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise to ensure that all contributions given to the Annual Fund are spent wisely on quality Rotary projects.  In the 2016-17 Rotary year, a record US$140.2 million was donated to The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is comprised of donations from Rotarians, friends of Rotary, corporations, workplace giving vehicles and can be matched by corporate matching gifts to leverage your donation. There is even an online resource that allows you to see if your company has a charitable matching program…check it out at: www.rotary.org/matchinggifts

Forest City Club Grant Project Helps Youth

The Forest City Rotary Club refurbished the dugouts at the community Little League Baseball fields by adding a roof shelter, new fencing and concrete flooring.
