Foundation First newsletter

Happy February to everyone.

I have to start with a reminder that this is the last month of this year’s District Rotary Rush.  This is where a wonderful, anonymous donor will match your gift to the annual fund of the foundation, if you will donate half way to your next level of Paul Harris recognition.  The minimum match is $100.00 and the maximum is $500.00.  There is more information and instructions on the District 5970 website. Click here for the instructions. If your program has not been talked about at your club meetings, please remind your Foundation Chair and/or your President to talk about this in a club meeting.  This is a District program, not a Rotary Foundation program so please be sure to follow the directions to receive your match.
We are getting ready for the District Conference coming up in June and also the new Rotary year.  I am in my final year of the three-year commitment for being District Foundation Chair.  There is a new person chosen and she is putting her team together.  If you are looking to get involved on the District level, please contact me and I will get your information to the new chair.  I have asked to be the Bequest Society chair and I hope to be in charge of thanking all people for their donations next year.  The District Organizational chart and the Foundation Committee are listed on the District website; District5970.org.
I want to highlight two things this month.  The first is the Waverly club.  They have submitted an application to The Rotary Foundation for a Global Grant that will dig up to 17 wells in Uganda.  This is a $72,000.00 investment working with the nonprofit Water to Thrive.  I also want to highlight and thank our Global Scholarship chair Chris Lindell.  It looks like he is putting forward two Global Scholars for Rotary and the District to support starting in the 2024-2025 Rotary year.  I hope to share more about this once the Scholars are approved, but Chris and the two clubs (Decorah and Cedar Rapids Sunrise) are moving forward with these two applicants.  They could each receive a full ride Scholarship to a University outside of the US with this program.
I continue to be pleased with the programs I hear about from the clubs.  Each one I visit I hear about multiple projects they are involved in.  It makes me proud to be a part of Rotary.
Please contact me if I can help on your Rotary journey.
