Foundation First newsletter

So much is going on in District 5970 and in the Rotary world in general.  Welcome to the March 2023 District 5970 Foundation Committee newsletter.

The Foundation committee just finished a review of the District 5970 Grants Handbook and it is posted on the District website www.district5970.org or click here.  The Grants Management Seminars are scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 at 7PM and for Tuesday, April 4th at 5PM.  Both of these will be virtual.  You can sign up by clicking here for March 21 and clicking here for April 4.  REMINDER – In order for a club to be eligible for a grant from the District you must have at least one member of your club attend one of the Grants Management Seminars and the club must submit an annual MOU to the district.  This includes eligibility for District and Global Grants.

The Rotary Rush campaign is complete for this year.  Thank you to all who took advantage of this opportunity.  I will have results in next month’s newsletter.  In the meantime if you think you have contributed but have not heard back please contact Theresa Mickelson (mickelson.theresa@gmail.com) or myself (john.wasta@gmail.com).

The District Conference is coming up.  It will be held in Waverly April 21 & 22.  To register or to see the agenda please go to the District Website at www.district5970.org.  To support our District please buy a duck in the district 5970 Duck Pluck for $5.42 each.  You can buy ducks on the district website.  REMINDER to those who are PolioPlus Society members, you can fulfill your pledge of contributing $100.00 per Rotary year by buying 20 ducks in the Duck Pluck.

I continue to travel around the district and present Our Foundation as a program at club meetings.  Thank you to all the clubs that have invited me.  If you want a Foundation program at your club meeting, please contact me so we can set a date.

For those looking for a way to help with the disasters around the world Our Foundation has a Disaster Fund where clubs and districts can apply for different levels of support and other clubs and districts can help as well.  Right now, the Foundation has opened direct disaster funds to help Ukraine or Pakistan with their ongoing disasters.  There will be a fund soon in response to the Earthquakes.  The best way to give is to go to your my.rotary.org account and click the ‘donate’ button.  This will make sure your donation is tracked to your account so you, your club and district gets the credit.

I must take a minute to congratulate our District 5970 PolioPlus Chairperson on his 90th birthday.  Bob Rose turns 90 in March.  There will be a reception at the Spencer Golf and Country Club on Saturday, March 18th from 1 to 3 PM.  Or you can send him a card – Bob Rose, 1501 3rd Ave E, Spenser, Iowa 51301.

Have a great month and thank you for your Rotary journey.
