It was shocking to read that there has been a victim who contracted polio in the United States.  An adult male from Rockland County, New York who was unvaccinated began experiencing weakness and paralysis in June.  Our long fight to end polio is not over.  Remember that every dollar you give to the PolioPlus Campaign is matched two for one by The Gates Foundation.  If you wish to give, please go to rotary.org and click on donate now.  Be sure to designate your gift to the PolioPlus Campaign.

That news makes this announcement even more relevant.  I mailed out the 68 District 5970 PolioPlus Society member certificates over the weekend to 30 club foundation chairpersons.  These certificates and lapel pins will be handed out in Rotary club meetings soon.  Thank you to everyone involved in getting our PolioPlus Society up and running.  A special thank you to our District Foundation PolioPlus Chairperson, Bob Rose from Spencer.  If your club is looking for a program, please contact Bob and get him on your schedule.  If you want to learn more about the District 5970 PolioPlus Society please click here.  This is a commitment of $100.00 per year or more towards the PolioPlus Campaign.

A quick review of our District Foundation attainment in Rotary year 2021-2022.  We were able to raise $305,160. For the annual campaign and $77,139 for the PolioPlus campaign.  We added 10 new Major Donors and 2 new Benefactors.  We ended the Rotary year with 62 Paul Harris Society members, 109 Rotary Direct participants, 802 Every Rotarian Every Year eligible participants and 68 PolioPlus Society members.

Now for something really exciting.  Last month I was contacted by not one but two District 5970 clubs that said they wanted to be 100% Paul Harris Fellow clubs. This is a one-time recognition, meaning once a club achieves this status, they retain that recognition going forward.  I am honored to announce that the Bancroft Area Club and the Mason City Noon Club have attained the recognition of 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club.  They will each be presented a banner for their club from the District Governor soon.
Please contact me if you have any Rotary Foundation questions.
