Foundation First newsletter

Welcome to the March 2024 Rotary District 5970 Foundation Newsletter.

The weather keeps me thinking it’s Spring already but then it shifts and I remember it’s only the first part of March.  Spring brings the planning for the District conference to closure.  This year the conference  is June 6th through 8th in the Bancroft area.  Please set aside these dates on your calendar and plan to join us.  More information will be coming out soon.

If you are moving towards an officer position in your club, I encourage you to plan to register for the training Rotary offers.  If you look on the rotary.org website in the Learning Center and search for your position, you should find an online guide or a webinar scheduled to help you understand how to do your position. If you are going to be President of your club, please do not miss the PETS training.  The virtual training will be held March 7 and 8.  Please register at www.northcentralpets.org. I encourage every club to have at least one member (two would be better) to attend the Grants training scheduled for Saturday April 13th at 10AM (register here) or Tuesday, April 16th at 7PM.  (register here)  Each club must have at least one member attend in order to qualify for a District or Global grant in the Rotary year 2024-2025.

Last month I mentioned the Global Grant the Waverly club is doing to build as many as 17 wells in Uganda.  They are looking for help to raise the club’s portion of the grant.  We offered a different way to fund the grant and the club will be giving their match to the Rotary Foundation’s annual campaign.  If you (or your club) want more information on this, please contact me (john.wasta@gmail.com).

As we start into the final months of the Rotary year, I want to remind you to fulfill any pledges you have made before June 30th.  If you have not made a pledge, I encourage you to consider a donation.  It does not have to be much.  If every Rotarian gave $25.00 - $50.00 a year to the foundation, Rotary would be able to do more than double the investments we are making in the world.  Last Rotary year over 427 million dollars were donated to the Foundation.  If you want to help make a difference in the world, I think this is a good place to invest.  Over 20% of the money raised by the foundation last year were donations between $25.00 - $50.00.

Thank you for being a Rotarian.  Please let me know if I can help you on your Rotary journey.
