Foundation First newsletter

Welcome to the January, 2023 District 5970 Rotary Foundation newsletter.
Happy New Year.  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season.  For those that have not looked at the Rotary.org website to see what Rotary is doing around the world, I have a link to the “Rotary Projects around the World” from December 2022.  Just like the Rotary magazine this monthly article from the website highlights projects around the world – click here to read it https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-projects-around-globe-december-2022.  Our district projects are highlighted on our District website and Facebook page.
Reminder that our Rotary Rush campaign is going on until the end of February.  This is a chance for you to have help reaching your next Paul Harris Recognition level.  If you will donate half way to your next Paul Harris recognition level, our generous district donor will match you.  For full information and an application please click here.  Remember the donation or the Rotary Foundation receipt must go to our Rotary Rush coordinator Theresa Mickelson for the match to be processed.  Please read the full application to understand the process.
As the new year starts the district foundation committee will be reviewing and updating our Grants Handbook.  If you have seen anything in the handbook you think needs to be reviewed, please contact me with your suggestion.  I will remind everyone that there are District dollars allocated to both District and Global grants but that all grants need to be approved by the District Board of Directors.  If your club is asked to be a part of a grant, the grant will not receive district funds without going through the district’s approval process.  Someone from each club applying for district funds will need to have a representative attend the grant class in the Spring in order to be eligible to apply.
As I travel around the district presenting our Foundation to clubs, I am amazed by the strength and involvement of the clubs.  We should all be proud of what Rotary is accomplishing on all levels.  From Local club’s work in their communities to disaster response around the world to Global and Peace Scholarships.  We are making a difference.
