Greetings from Edinburgh!
October has been a great month for me. I’m enjoying my coursework, spending time with friends, and participating in Rotary events. I’m currently taking courses in Political Ecology, Principles of Environmental Sustainability, and Ecosystems and Global Change. The coursework focuses on aspects of enhancing the resiliency of communities against natural disasters, strengthening ecosystems against climate change, and considering new ways to approach sustainability issues in politics. I’ve gotten to know my professors and cohort quite well, and I am looking forward to conducting in-depth research on topics pertaining to sustainable development and environmental justice for my final projects this semester.
I had the pleasure of participating in several Rotary events this month. I had a great time at the Rotary Global Scholars Orientation on 12 October and the Rotary International Night on 24 October. We enjoyed getting to introduce ourselves and learn more about one another. I’m looking forward to participating in more Rotary events in the next few months and contributing to Rotary International’s strong reputation.
I was fortunate to have my grandparents visit me from the United States this month. I was their “tour guide” around Edinburgh, and we also went on a weekend adventure to Inverness and the Highlands, which was absolutely stunning! I’m so fortunate to have these opportunities and be a part of such a great organization through the Rotary Global Scholars Program. I’ve also attached some photos of the things I’ve been up to; please feel free to browse through them.
I’m so grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had so far and I’m looking forward to what’s next. Cheers!
Ashton
