Rotarians Give Boulevard of Valor and West Twin Plaza a Touch-Up

Members of Rotary After Hours assisted in sprucing up the Boulevard of Valor. The flowers are cut back, and Allison Appel and her daughter (Carly) helped with the salvias. Mark Dohms (Assistant District Governor and Webster City Rotarian) spent time dead-heading the Boulevard and caring for the rose bushes. John Bock offered to help, but the volunteers (including Randy and Reta Youngdale) were super speedy. Much like area farmers, we hope for much-needed rain to shoot out new flower growth before Fall.

Although the Arts R Alive events are cancelled for this Summer, various sculptures will be on display.  Noon Rotarian, Richard Carlson, has been sharing his green thumb around the Rotary plantings at West Twin Park Plaza to prepare. He has weeded and pruned shrubs to prepare for mulching around the Rotary plantings near the memorial to our Pulitzer Prize Winners.

Lastly, the Webster City Rotary Board approved and launched a virtual #wcservicechallenge. It is in a pinned post on our Facebook Page. Below is the tidbit shared.

Got Service? We want to see it!
Join the Webster City Rotary Virtual Service Challenge!

As Rotarians, we know “Rotary Opens Opportunities” has been chosen as the 2020-2021 Rotary theme. COVID has put many of our in-person and group community service projects on hold. However, that doesn’t have to pause our “service above self" efforts. We are providing a new opportunity to share our time and talents in a new {and exciting} way. We are inviting Webster City Rotarians {from both the Noon & RAH groups} to join in on the Virtual Service Challenge! Not only is this a great way to get involved {while remaining socially connected & physically distant}, but it also provides the opportunity to help others and benefit the community; locally and across the globe.

Here are the “RULES" on how to participate in the Webster City Rotary Virtual Service Challenge:
1. Participants complete a community service project individually or as a small group {less than 10 individuals      would be great}.
2. Participants snap a picture/ video of them completing as many service projects as they desire.
3. Participants share the photo(s)/video(s) with the Webster City Rotary Club via social media (or they can            email Tiffany Larson at tiffers313@gmail.com to share).
4. Participants may share by submitting their photos/videos in the comment section of this PINNED POST on        Facebook (or by sharing on their own social media using the challenge hashtag).
5. Participants are encouraged to use the following challenge hashtag with their submitted photo(s)/video(s):          #wcservicechallenge.
6. Youth and family engagement are a focus of the club, so individuals can include their children and/or family      in their efforts.
7. The challenge will take place August 1, 2020 until October 31, 2020.
8. Non-Rotarians wanting to give back and complete service projects are more than welcome to join in on the        action.
9. The projects may vary in theme and service type. Need ideas? Let us know!
10. Participants are encouraged to have fun, be safe, practice social distancing, and wash hands thoroughly (or        use hand sanitizer if unable to access soap & water). Masks are strongly encouraged if in public spaces or          working in small groups.
